Many women dream of dying their hair, but fear that this treatment will simply destroy it. In this case, henna, which is a completely natural coloring agent, seems a good solution.

And what is henna?

Lawsonia inermis, or henna in Arabic, is a shrub that produces reddish pigment. By drying and powdering its leaves you get henna, which is used to dye your hair and to create washable tattoos.

Colouring your hair with henna - is it worth it?

Thanks to the fact that henna is a 100% natural product, which does not contain any artificial additives, it can positively influence both the appearance and condition of our hair. First of all, it emphasizes its natural color and gives it a beautiful shine, but also has an additional effect on the regeneration and strengthening of damaged hair. Although henna leaves form a reddish dye, they can be combined with other ingredients, thanks to which we obtain a wide range of shades for colouring our hair. It perfectly covers gray hair and the colour can last up to three months. It fades gradually, so it's not so visible. It is also worth knowing that natural henna is also used as a hair mask.

Ordinary hair dyes - why are they harmful?

It's important to remember that traditional hair dyes that you can buy at any store contain harmful substances such as ammonia or hydrogen peroxide. Therefore, it's better to avoid using them and bet on a natural but effective product, which is henna. More than colouring with henna, colouring hair with henna improves the condition of the hair and makes it exceptionally shiny, these are not the only advantages of this product. Henna helps us fight dandruff, improves the sebaceous glands and has a protective effect against UV radiation. Natural vegetable dye When commercial hair dyes were unknown to us, we used only what nature gave us. Therefore, for centuries, henna has been used to colour not only hair but also eyebrows, eyelashes and even skin. The completely natural henna, without any chemical additives, does not penetrate the hair, but gently envelops it, creating a kind of barrier on it. The only disadvantage of using henna is longer colouring time.

The mixture should be prepared in the evening so that the dye can be released overnight. Henna can be used by people who have dark blonde, brown and black hair. However, before we start the whole colouring process, it is worth trying henna on a small piece of hair. As with any colouring, you should protect your clothes and put on protective gloves. How much henna should I use? For people with short hair, 100 grams of henna is sufficient. When the hair covers the neck, 200 grams of henna should be prepared, and when it reaches the shoulders, 300 grams of henna. Long hair that reaches the waist requires about 500 grams of colouring.

How to prepare the potion?

Pour henna into a ceramic dish and then add lukewarm water and lemon juice, which will give you a stronger colour, then mix everything together. Wash and dry your hair before applying the product and then cover it with a thick layer of henna. Traditionally, we start with the hair on the neck and go to the top of the head. When the hair is completely covered, cover it with foil and wait two to six hours. It is worth leaving the henna for a longer time because then the hair will absorb all the nutrients and the colour will be more durable and stronger. Finally, wash the henna and dry the hair. As you know, using ordinary colouring dyes can have a lot of unpleasant side effects. Therefore, using henna is a much better solution as it does not lead to skin irritation, greasing or hair loss, split ends and general hair weakening, which in turn makes it brittle, dry and much rarer.
